Week of August 31, 2026 - Small World Seafood Update

Hello everybody!!

And here we are. One more week to the unofficial end of summer. It's been a wild one, for sure. Tons of tuna, hot and humid days, stormy storms. One for the books. So, let's take it out with a bang, shall we?

Boats have been idle with end of month quotas tapped out so I am still looking out for what's to come. But with a list like ours, at this point, I think there is plenty to play with. Finish strong with the big hitters, yeah?

So, the fish of the year in my book, the fish that surprised the most people, the fish so many people discovered as a favorite for 2026 had got to the Greenland turbot. Every time we sell this fish, we sell more than the last time. That tells me that people who bought it buy it again and new people want to try it because i talk it up so much.

This is the northern cousin of King halibut which has not been around much this season. A melt in your mouth fish. Elegant, delicate and sophisticated. Great to just roast in a 425F oven for 12 minutes with salt, pepper, olive oil. Great to pan sear with a little dredge. Great to steam or bake in parchment. Just good stuff.

Also around this week is a previous winner of fish of the year. Cod cheeks. Little discs of joy. Easy to pan sear with a little dredge or toss into a fish stew or soup. Tastes like cod, texture like scallops. Winner.

What would the end of summer be without fresh claw and knuckle lobster meat? Miserable. But no worries. We will have some this week. Lobster rolls, baby!!!!

And our Faroe Island salmon and Hokkaido scallops. Both sushi grade. Both amazing for poke bowls. Both best in class..

Branzini, rainbow trout, whole daurades, Chilean seabass, Black cod..etc, etc, etc..

For special items, we have frozen gefilte fish logs from Raskins in Brooklyn. Great stuff for your Rosh Hashanah table.

And back by popular demand, smoked albacore tuna spread!!! This stuff is more like a pate and so friggin good. I think I could eat a whole container by myself. Okay. I know I can cause that's what I always do. But whatever. Don't judge me.

We have wagyu ground beef from Stonyrun Farms in Royersford. Real stuff, no problems. Also, real prok/beef hot dogs from El Camino. Hey, it's the holiday, no?

And for smoked fish, we will be adding one more item. Just for fun. Whole smoked whiting! You get three whole fish in one pound. Super flavorful and fun to pick out the meat which slides right off of the bones. So tasty...

You see? Lots of fun stuff to play with, no?

And as always, I am still keeping my eyes peeled for something else coming our way. You never know..There are a few possibilities still to reveal themselves....

You see how much fun we can have? I feel it too...

Littleneck clams are the shellfish of the week....Pair with Settentatre Pasta Co's organic fresh spinach linguini for cheapest meal ever!!  Not sure about oysters yet... We have labneh and smoked fish..So many good things..

Plenty of crab meat, shrimp, etc....

I know, I know..Lots of words...

Anyway, as usual, I have to thank all of you guys for being in our lives. What an incredible community we live in...
