Week of July 27, 2026 - Small World Seafood Update
Hello everybody!!
Thanks for all the love last week, folks. Much appreciated. For those who don't know what I am talking about, we were voted 'Best Fishmonger' by Philly Mag. Pretty neat stuff. Even with a little note about us and what we do, it is very hard to explain to people how this thing works and how fun it can be, too. It is a model like no other. It doesn't make sense, really, but it totally does. And therein lies the paradox.
Another paradox is the more intimate response I got from my tap-tap poem last week about the winding road of life and the unknown form of the future. Most of us who are established can look back on our lives and connect the dots to the present. But we forget that at 20 years old, we could never have predicted what our lives would look like twenty or thirty years later. As we go through life, we forget all the self-doubt, all the fear of failiure, all the fear of success, all the challenges and obstacles. And t hen we tell a very different story of how we got to where we got to.
But the youth don't hear these stories as they face their uncertain future and it can feel daunting and confusing. How do they have it so hard and we had it so easy? Well, we didn't. We worked hard, we tried to be good people and we got very lucky along the way. And we had setbacks and failures and embarassments and regrets and made a million mistakes, some of which we could never take back. It's important to tell our children or young ones these stories. We practically never do...
Okay, onto the fish!! I sound like a broken record but more tuna from Canada this week!!! This year has really been amazing and the tuna has been really very good! Sushi grade and this time back to yellowfin tuna (also known as Ahi tuna). We shall take what the sea angels give us..
Also on the mark is more fresh claw and knuckle lobster meat from Nova Scotia. We can't live without it anymore. Pretty crazy..
Also, we have more monchong (also know as pomfret) fillets! Super cool fish from the Pacific.
I am trying to get my hands on some Greenland turbot this week. Cross your fingers, everyone..
Plus, on the crab meat front, we will have lump as well as claw meat available to you all.
Yes on Faroe Island salmon and Hokkaido scallops. Both sushi grade..
We have rainbow trout, branzini, Chilean seabass, Black cod, tons of other stuff.
For special items, we have more shrimp and crab canneloni in vodka cream sauce. Also, fish meatballs in creamy pesto sauce. Plus, marinated Cherry peppers stuffed with mussel meat is back in the mix! Great as a little tapas thing or try it as a garnish for your afternoon martini..really amazing!!!
And as always, I am still keeping my eyes peeled for something else coming our way. You never know..There are a few possibilities still to reveal themselves....
You see how much fun we can have? I feel it too...
PEI mussels are the shellfish of the week....Pair with Settentatre Pasta Co's organic fresh spinach linguini for cheapest meal ever!! Not sure about oysters yet... We have labneh and smoked fish..So many good things..
Plenty of crab meat, shrimp, etc....
I know, I know..Lots of words...
Anyway, as usual, I have to thank all of you guys for being in our lives. What an incredible community we live in...
