Week of September 7, 2026 - Small World Seafood Update
Hello everybody!!
Well, if you are going to finish off the summer, you couldn't have asked for a nicer weekend. I, for one, will be looking forward to putting my hoodie on in the aerly morning and evening. Not quite ready to give up on the shorts yet. Gotta have a little defiance in you, no?
So, this weekend many of you will be celebrating the Jewish new year, Rosh Hashanah, as will I. This marks the beginning of the contemplative and existential cycle as we head toward the barren winter. I love these broody moments. This is the time to begin preparing for the year to come. This is the time to say that the past year is past us and the new year brings hope of something new eventually. This is the time that I begin to think about something that can define my year going forward. This past year, my intention was to be present and appreciate every moment. This year, is the year that I hope to come to terms with the fact that I am beginning the final third of my life. And in doing so, have to not only appreciate every present moment but also be grateful for the life I've had so far. Practice and training is over. This is gametime now. Everything is for real. Everything counts. What would it be for you? (This is a non-deniminational exercise, by the way. It's always good to stop, evaluate and refocus.)
I know it's been a while and this hasn't been the best year for it. In fact, it's been a crap year for it quantity wise but this week, we will be getting fresh halibut fillet from Nova Scotia!!! And the crowd goes wild!! By now, we would have seen it at least four or five times. We've only seen it once. So don't sleep on this one. We may see it one more time this year. Maybe not..
Also from Nova Scotia, more fresh claw and knuckle lobster meat! I think we should see this for a few more weeks but you never know. Well, I never know, actually..Yay!
We will have more cod cheeks. Beautiful little discs to dredge and pan sear. Stack them into a sandwich for a tasty treat..
We have a nice shot of Boston mackerel fillets too! One of the healthiest fish you can eat out there..
We will have plenty of Faroe Island salmon. Every year, we sell a tone of whole sides for you holiday tables. We love to be a part of your celebrations. It's an honor, actually. So no worries there.
We have butterflied branzini, rainbow trout, whole Chilean seabass sides as well as Black Cod fillets.
We have the Essential blend crab meat back in the fold! This is the mix of the whole crab in one can. From the red colored claw meat on the bottom to the lump and finally the jumbo lump on the very top. I think it is just my favorite to have all the specs in one shot. Makes the best crab cakes and pasta dishes..
We also have frozen gefilte fish logs from Raskins for those who want to bake some up for their holiday tables. Whole daurades for those who want to see a fish head on the table. Just lots of stuff.....
You see? Lots of fun stuff to play with, no?
And as always, I am still keeping my eyes peeled for something else coming our way. You never know..There are a few possibilities still to reveal themselves....
You see how much fun we can have? I feel it too...
PEI mussels are the shellfish of the week....Pair with Settentatre Pasta Co's organic fresh spinach linguini for cheapest meal ever!! Oysters will be Katama's Signatures from Martha's Vineyard... We have labneh and smoked fish..So many good things..
Plenty of crab meat, shrimp, etc....
I know, I know..Lots of words...
Anyway, as usual, I have to thank all of you guys for being in our lives. What an incredible community we live in...
