Week of September 15, 2025 - Small World Seafood Update
Hello everybody!!
Well, summer isn't giving up on us yet! Although these may be the last few puffs of that season's breaths, I can tell you that they are much appreciated. Another lovely weekend behind us. I love the month of September....
And as we lay out the items for the week, i know that some of you will be buying and preparing for the Rosh Hashanah next Monday night. We will have gefilte fish logs available this week from Raskins up in Brooklyn. Great stuff. They come frozen and must be baked or boiled by you at home. From frozen. Instructions are on the package. Also, whole sides of salmon will be available as usual. Not everybody can make the pick up times during the week so if you want to come by the shop on Monday morning between 8am and noon, you can pick one up then. No need to pre-order. We'll have plenty. Also, some of you may be nervous about picking up the side on Thursday and holding til Monday or Tuesday. You can order a side and request it blast frozen. We've frozen a bunch of sides specifically for that.
Okay, onto the regular programming already in session...This week, we have a nice shot of fresh, sushi grade albacore tuna from Hawaii! They call it 'tombo' over there. Super nice stuff with a color going from ruby red to cream. The beauty of this tuna is that it has a really nice fattiness to it. So, it is terrific in a poke bowl or as a tartare. But it is just as terrific cooked in a sauce such as a puttanesca or Provencale. Also, you can slow poach it in olive oil to make a top notch preserved tuna. Better than what you could get in a can!
Second up, we will have more cod cheeks from Iceland! We love our beautiful cheeks around here. They cook up just like scallops and are to die for. A little dredge can be added before you pan fry for an extra crisp. So good!
We have more butterflied rainbow trout as well as butterflied branzini. We will also have whole scaled and gutted branzini as well!
We have Boston mackerel fillets as well as whole Portuguese sardines. We will continue to try to bring you hamachi loin as well as kama. That stuff, my lord. We have more Black Cod fillets, also known as sablefish, that could be a real winner in a holiday table. Just saying...
South African lobster tails, sushi grade wild rock shrimp, whole head on Argentine red shrimp and a ton of other stuff....
More shrimp and crab canneloni in vodka cream sauce and swordfish meatballs. We have house made kippered salmon and we also brought in some Osetra caviar as well! Good way to start a new year...
You see? How much fun we can have?
PEI mussels are the shellfish of the week....Pair with Settentatre Pasta Co's organic fresh spinach linguini for cheapest meal ever!! Oysters will be Belles Du Jours from New Brunswick, Canada ... We have labneh and smoked fish..So many good things..
Plenty of crab meat, shrimp, etc....
I know, I know..Lots of words...
Anyway, as usual, I have to thank all of you guys for being in our lives. What an incredible community we live in...
