Week of August 24, 2026 - Small World Seafood Update

Hello everybody!!

I gotta say, I love you guys. What a fun and amazing community of fish lovers we have here. Engaged, interested, supportive, friendly, funny, creative and just all around good people. It is so easy to look at the world through a device and see the shittiness of things out there. But from my perspective, I see a wonderful world of good people trying to be good every day. It may just be our bubble but I don't think so. These devices skew things a lot...

Well, two more weeks before the unofficial end of summer and you can feel it already. Kids getting reasdy for school. Not sure if the parents are ready yet but that's how it goes every year. Transitions...

This week, we see two great things coming from Canadian waters. First up we have fresh sushi grade albacore tuna!!! A terrific smaller tuna that is dynamite in poke bowls and also really is great with a quick sear or poached in a sauce. I love this fattier tuna for the flavor and pretty color ranging from ruby to cream.

Also, frolicking up there in the open seas is more delicious fresh swordfish!! Everybody went wild a couple of weeks ago with our sword. Yeah. It's that good. Creamy, mild and so fun to try preparing in different ways. As I often say, this is a fish that can be prepared any way you would prepare chicken breast. Pan sear, grill, kabob, poach, piccata, marsala, whatever!

More from my homeland (yes, I am originally from Montreal), fresh cooked claw and knuckle lobster meat from Nova Scotia!!! Two words....lobster....rolls....

We have Faroe Island salmon and Hokkaido scallops. Both sushi grade. Perfect for a trifecta poke feast with the albacore tuna!

We have branzini and rainbow trout butterflied, Chilean seabass, Black cod fillets, hamachi loins and collars, cod cheeks. Lots of good stuff....

And as we roll into the end of summer and beginning of fall, it is time for what has become and annual event. Honey from the Ryland/Adams hives of Berwyn!!! No one else gets to have their honey but us! We took the whole batch!!

So, we absolutely love this honey. Just so you know, there are two seasons for honey, generally. The July harvest and the October harvest. The first one comes from the pollination of flowers and the second one from the pollination of fruit and veggies. The first one is light in color and floral in flavor and the second one is deep in color and more intense sweetness. This is the first one. Orange blossom and wild flowers punctuate this one. It is local and a great inoculation to the pollens of our area. Plus, with Rosh Hashanah coming up soon, a great local honey to dip your apple in!

And for smoked fish, we will be adding one more item. Just for fun. Whole smoked whiting! You get three whole fish in one pound. Super flavorful and fun to pick out the meat which slides right off of the bones. So tasty...

You see? Lots of fun stuff to play with, no?

And as always, I am still keeping my eyes peeled for something else coming our way. You never know..There are a few possibilities still to reveal themselves....

You see how much fun we can have? I feel it too...

PEI mussels are the shellfish of the week....Pair with Settentatre Pasta Co's organic fresh spinach linguini for cheapest meal ever!!  Not sure about oysters yet... We have labneh and smoked fish..So many good things..

Plenty of crab meat, shrimp, etc....

I know, I know..Lots of words...

Anyway, as usual, I have to thank all of you guys for being in our lives. What an incredible community we live in...
