Week of August 17, 2026 - Small World Seafood Update
Hello everybody!!
I always go into August thinking it is still the height of summer and then by the third week or so, the sky starts to look noticeably different. The clouds are different. The blue is different. And that's when I realize that the end of summer is upon us. Normally, I would lament every day pacing into the winter. But this year, I am going to slow time down a bit and appreciate the warmth and long days while we have them. Each and every day. It's always easier to fret about what I don't have as opposed to appreciating what I do...
And good timing as well. After an extravaganza week of soft shells and swordfish, this week the sea isn't offering up much. And this is where i get to point where I have to look at what we have and appreciate it. We have so many great things on our list now. So many things to try again. So many things to try cooking up in a different way. So many summer-y dishes to make before it's all over. Paellas, fish on the grill, lobster rolls...
One thing that did pop up is more Greenland turbot! I say this every time but it is definitely one of the most elegant fish to eat. So creamy and just melts in your mouth. The more northern cousin of halibut, it is a marvelous fish...
We have more cooked claw and knuckle lobster meat from Nova Scotia! Hopefully for a few more weeks but you never know!!!
We have sushi grade Faroe Island salmon and Hokkaido scallops. I made a poke bowl last week at home using both and scored beaucoup points with the wife. Winner, winner, sushi dinner..
We have butterflied branzini and rainbow trout, Chilean seabass and Black cod fillets. Hamachi loins and collars. Just a bunch of really cool stuff to make resto style meals at a fraction of the price of going out..
And for special items, we have a nice batch or pork/beef hot dogs from El Camino! These things are the best! And real!
Oh, and the cherry peppers stuffed with mussels are back!
And as always, I am still keeping my eyes peeled for something else coming our way. You never know..There are a few possibilities still to reveal themselves....
You see how much fun we can have? I feel it too...
Littleneck clams are the shellfish of the week....Pair with Settentatre Pasta Co's organic fresh bucatini for cheapest meal ever!! Not sure about oysters yet... We have labneh and smoked fish..So many good things..
Plenty of crab meat, shrimp, etc....
I know, I know..Lots of words...
Anyway, as usual, I have to thank all of you guys for being in our lives. What an incredible community we live in...
