Week of August 10, 2026 - Small World Seafood Update
Hello everybody!!
Well, not only has the weather been steamy and stormy but the fishing hasn't been great either. We do the best we can to have fun stuff and sometimes it is what it is and we have to go with the tried and true.
This week is different. Stuff is coming to us from every angle so it's going to be an extravaganze week! A lot of favorites will be on tap!
First up is a thing that usually has it's main season from Mother's Day to Memorial Day and once every few years, we get a pop in August. This is one of those years. This week a nice shot of fresh Jumbo soft shell crabs!!!! I won't say anything more about this except that we clean them for you so they are ready to go and you have two days to cook them although they freeze well.
Second, we have a nice shot of fresh swordfish from Canada!!! This has been more of a tuna year than a swordfish year but maybe things are starting to turn around. Cold water sword is the very best there is. Creamy and mild...
We have more fresh cooked claw and knuckle lobster meat also from Canada! Nova Scotia is the king of lobster even though we associate more with Maine. More of the good stuff as we wind down the summer.
And, having not seen this for a while, we have fresh Uni from Mexico!!! Sea urchin roe is a delicacy oft called the 'foie gras of the sea'. So excited to see this back in the fold!
We have more cod cheeks from Iceland. Sushi grade Faroe Island salmon and Hokkaido scallops. Both also available blast frozen and still sushi grade..
We have butterflied branzini and rainbow trout. Whole branzini as well as whole daurades. Whole Portuguese sardines and barbouni. More monchong fillets.
Fresh pasta this week switches over to bucatini. Matt from Settantatre Pasta Co makes a great one. Plus, we have been playing with a cooked tuna ravioli in puttanesca sauce that you can pop into the oven to heat up just like the fish meatballs or canneloni. Really delish. so that's on the list too!!
And for special items, we have a nice batch or pork/beef hot dogs from El Camino! These things are the best! And real!
Oh, and the cherry peppers stuffed with mussels are back!
And as always, I am still keeping my eyes peeled for something else coming our way. You never know..There are a few possibilities still to reveal themselves....
You see how much fun we can have? I feel it too...
PEI mussels are the shellfish of the week....Pair with Settentatre Pasta Co's organic fresh bucatini for cheapest meal ever!! Not sure about oysters yet... We have labneh and smoked fish..So many good things..
Plenty of crab meat, shrimp, etc....
I know, I know..Lots of words...
Anyway, as usual, I have to thank all of you guys for being in our lives. What an incredible community we live in...
