Week of April 27, 2026 - Small World Seafood Update
Hello everybody!!
I've been mentioning this over and over for the past few weeks but this is a very special period of the year. The trees are no longer bare. The longer days bring warmth and better moods and energy. The warmer waters bring certain fish back into the fold.
We saw yellowfin tuna for the first time in 2026 two weeks ago. Last week, we saw the first halibut of the year. This week, we will see the ultimate marker of Spring in the area and a definite symbol that summer is coming.
Soft shell crabs!!!!!
This is the earliest I've ever seen the big run avail itself but i won't complain. We've seen years where we hadn't seen much til after Memorial Day. This is a blessing, folks. Hopefully, we can see another run or two before the end of May!
Now, this is always an absolute frenzy and we will do the best we can to get enough to provide for everyone who wants some. A couple of notes about them. First, we will clean them meaning removing the gills, the face and belly plate so they will be ready to cook up. Second, they are fragile creatures so the shelf life is not very long. You really should cook them up within two days of getting them from us. Thirdly, they freeze extremely well so you can stock up a bit on them. After the middle of June, we probably won't see them again. This is a very short season...Oh. and one more thing. Check out the recipe on our site for slow cooking them and making a pasta dish. Friggin amazing!
But that's not all. We will also have a nice shot of beautiful swordfish tyhis week too! It's a bounty, folks! The first nice run of the year, this swrodfish is from Southern Brasil which is one of the best places for swordfish anywhere. You guys have been asking about it. Here it is!!!
We also have more Boston mackerel fillets! Great stuff for the brain. We have branzini butterflied and whole, rainbow trouts, Chilean seabass fillets, Black cod fillets..A kazillion things to have fun with, really...Hamachi loins and kamas...
Oh, and baby cold water cooked shrimp out of Canada are back! So many of you really loved them for their sweetness. Super for shrimp salads or toasts. This is a staple of North Atlantic countries such as Sweden and Denmark as well as the maritime provinces of Canada.
As a special item, we have some amazing smoked Canadian Bacon from El Camino. This is the real deal for this smoked pork loin. It's one of my favorites...
And as always, I am still keeping my eyes peeled for something else coming our way. You never know..There are a few possibilities still to reveal themselves....
You see how much fun we can have? I feel it too...
Mussels are the shellfish of the week....Pair with Settentatre Pasta Co's organic fresh spinach linguini for cheapest meal ever!! Loving Cups are the oysters out of Virginia ... We have labneh and smoked fish..So many good things..
Plenty of crab meat, shrimp, etc....
I know, I know..Lots of words...
Anyway, as usual, I have to thank all of you guys for being in our lives. What an incredible community we live in...
