Week of February 9, 2026 - Small World Seafood Update

Hello everybody!!

This will be a week where we also do Saturday pickups in Queen Village and Moore Brothers in Pennsauken. FYI.

The cold weather is breaking, people. Wednesday is going to hit a balmy 41F! I never thought I would look forward to a temp like that but there you go. Perspective...

Speaking of perspective, we have two big events coming up in the next week or so. First is Valentines Day this coming Saturday. We have a great lineup of stuff coming for that. But more on that later.

Next week, beginning next Tuesday evening is the Lunar New Year celebrated in Asia and around the world. We will be moving into the Year of the Horse. The Fire Horse, more specifically. As we move on from the cautious and introspective Year of the Snake, we enter a year of real high energy. This coming year will embody speed, fieriness and enthusiasm. It will be a year of bold moves and drastic changes. Just as any horse can be dangerous and imposing, it can also be a source of tremendous strength and help you move very far forward if you learn to harness its energy. This isn't a going with the flow thing. It's a taking it for a ride thing. Those who figure out how to jump on its back will be able to cross long distances and difficult terrain, symbolically. Those who don't will be left behind. So, let this be the year you get on the horse and fly like the wind!! This can be a year of huge progress and change...Let's goooooooo!!!!!!

Okay, back to the regularly scheduled programming...So, with both of these moments to celebrate, we thought we would bring in a big boy lineup.

First up is a fish many of you have been requesting. Fresh Greenland turbot fillet!!! I love that you guys love this. It is the more northern cousin of halibut and just will melt in your mouth. Bone white, soft, delicate and most of all, as elegant as you can get. An easy fish to simply roast in the oven at 425F for 12 minutes or try your hand at baking on parchment. This fish is made for that!

Second up is fresh cooked claw and knuckle lobster meat from Nova Scotia!! This is the good stuff for lobster rolls, lobster risotto or lobster pasta. We will vav pack them fresh and they will have a good 7-10 day shelf life but can be frozen. Great stuff...But, hey, if you prefer tails, our South African tails are the best of the best..

We also have more super frozen bluefin Chutoro! This is the part of the tuna that is less fatty than the Otoro but fatty nonetheless. If the Otoro is equivalent to a ribeye steak, the Chutoro is more like a Strip Steak. Nice balance of fat to meat. It's anectodal but my feeling is that most of you guys prefer this over Otoro...And remember, you must follow the thawing instructions on our website. Check it out.

And straight from California, we have fresh uni trays!! These are 50g trays in  wooden boxes. It's been a while since we've brought some in. Happy to see it back...

We have a nice shot of local herring we've filleted and vac packed. Also, more gorgeous Boston mackerel fillets. Eat these and you'll just be smarter. Your brain will thank you.

Plenty of Faroe Island samon. Sushi grade and best in class. Plenty of Black cod fillets and Chilean seabasss fillets...

As special items, we have more bacon cheddar brats from El Camino. My lord those are good. And what would Valentine's Day be with more Lava Cakes from Good Good Chocolates in Queen Village. They are the best! And this batch will be more decadent than the last with a raspberry filling. Uhh....yeah.....

And finally, for the pets in the house, a bunch of you guys keep asking about trim you can cook up for them. Well, we produce a lot of it that goes to treats and such but some of you just want the trim. That's some belly, end tails, neck pieces, etc. Not the best for human consumption but really awesome for pets. So, we are vac packing some in one pound packs and blast freezing them. That way, you don't have to share the good parts with them even though it is still the very same salmon...Hey, there's Valentines Day presents going that way too...

But as always, I am still keeping my eyes peeled for something else coming our way. You never know..

You see how much fun we can have? I feel it too...

Littleneck clams are the shellfish of the week....Pair with Settentatre Pasta Co's organic fresh spinach linguini for cheapest meal ever!!  Not sure about oysters yet ... We have labneh and smoked fish..So many good things..

Plenty of crab meat, shrimp, etc....

I know, I know..Lots of words...

Anyway, as usual, I have to thank all of you guys for being in our lives. What an incredible community we live in...
