Week of February 23, 2026 - Small World Seafood Update
Hello everybody!!
Good morning, everyone! It's Groundhog Day!!!!
What the heck. Another big storm. I told my wife back in November that I thought this was going to be a snowy winter. And so, now it's my fault...At least this one is quite a beautiful one. I mean, walking through the streets and looking at all these puffy pillow mounds everywhere is quite dreamy. And the snow on trees! I feel like I am living through a Dr Seuss book...Hopefully this snow won't stick around as long as the last one, though..
So, this is a week where we do Saturday pick ups in Queen Village and at Moore Brothers in Pennsauken.
All markets were closed yesterday. All boats were in. Trucking companies idled. So, it's a little hard to tell what we will do this week. We are extremely dependent on the logistics segment to get us product. Boston serves as the major hub for seafood in the Northeast with trucks running daily directly to Philly. Not only were they buried in snow up there, many of the truck drivers live outside of Boston where plowing can be really slow. But, something always comes up but I won't know until the week progresses. I do know a couple of things, though.
First of all, no fresh Faroe Island salmon this week. We will get a nice shot of Steelhead trout from Chile this week. Sushi grade, similar to salmon but with a deeper orange color and a mild flavor. Really nice fattiness too!
We will have our first shot of Martha's Vineyard bay scallops this week! These little pearls are the sweetest little things! Great to quickly sear up or even use in a crudo or ceviche. Yup. Sushi grade! These have a very short season so if you like them, take advantage!!!
We have more cod cheeks from Iceland. Great stuff...
We have a lot of our usual suspects in the lineup this week. No one is going to starve here...
A couple of special items returning to the mix, though. First up is our very popular and very delish smoked albacore tuna spread. To me, it's kind of more like a tuna pate. Full of flavor. We mix the smoked albacore with smoked mackerel and poached haddock to create a really unique spread. I love this stuff...
We also have fish meatballs in creamy pesto sauce back in the fold. A great item to heat up and eat on their own or toss into your favorite pasta..
And last but not least, we finally have more StonyRun Farms ground beef back! I know. It's beeen hard on everybody. Having to eat supermarket ground beef. Not even close to the same...
We have plenty of branzini and rainbow trout butterflied. Black Cod and Chilean seabass fillets. Local herring and Boston mackerel fillets. And so many goodies to have fun with. Plus, with over 150 recipes on our main website, there's no reason not to experiment a bit. Try new things.
And as always, I am still keeping my eyes peeled for something else coming our way. You never know..
You see how much fun we can have? I feel it too...
Littleneck clams are the shellfish of the week....Pair with Settentatre Pasta Co's organic fresh spinach linguini for cheapest meal ever!! Not sure about oysters yet ... We have labneh and smoked fish..So many good things..
Plenty of crab meat, shrimp, etc....
I know, I know..Lots of words...
Anyway, as usual, I have to thank all of you guys for being in our lives. What an incredible community we live in...
