Week of December 1, 2025 - Small World Seafood Update

Hello everybody!!

Weeeeeee're baaaack!!!!! Dja miss us? We missed you. I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving full of family, friends and food!! The big Fs! Well. over here, it was kind of nice to get off of our weekly undulation of seek, prep and pick ups for a week. The rhythm is pretty cool and we definitely love having a purpose like serving our community. The neverending motion can take its toll on the body and mind though. Not that I am complaining about what we do. We love it. It's just nice to spend a little time in parasympathetic mode to recharge. So, without getting too mush mush, I am grateful to the Small World crew and for you guys being in our lives. We truly have a wonderful community. I really am grateful for everybody during a week off a little more than usual...if that's possible..

Okay, so right after Thanksgiving, we start to have to think about the race and preparation for Christmas and New Years. This year, Christmas Day and New Years Day fall on a Thursday so that's a problem. What we are thinking, and we haven't nailed this to the floor yet, is that for both the week of Christmas and the week of New Years, we will do our pickups on the Tuesday of that week and not on the Friday. That way, you have time to grab and prep. So, just a thought but we will decide and firm that up as we get closer.

But for this week, well, we have a tradition for the newbies. One of our very own happens to own a villa in Umbria (Italy) with Olive trees and for the past five years, Tom has been bottling the whole first press and shipping it to Philly just for us. So, what we get is the first taste of the first cold press of olive oil out of Italy! And since most olive oil from different plots are typically blended with others, this is a rare single villa, single harvest year olive oil full of flavor and loaded with the healthiest of polyphenols.. Now, people gets nutso with this every year. More than with anything else we bring to you. With limited quantity, we ask you to limit your orders for it to two bottles so that everyone who wants one can get one. No one else will taste this but us. Great for finishing dishes, or just grabbing a teaspoon of. It's now or never. Once we sell out, there isn't more til December 2026..

So, onto the fish! This week, we have fresh fluke flounder fillets from North Jersey!!! People have been having a ball with this stuff and I am so glad. Mild, firm, elegant. Pan sear it, roast it in the oven or try your hand at stuffing it with a half a fishcake. My lord...

Also, thinking about Christmas coming can't happen around here without thinking about Seven Fishes.this is the time to start accumulating stuff. Don't wait. And one of the integral and traditional pieces is smelts. This week, we are bringing in fresh dressed smelts that we will blast freeze for you! Now, you don't have to wait for Christmas to fry up a bag of these babies. I certainly am not going to wait...love those things..

Also, right now, Spanish mackerel is coming into the markets in large amounts and we love that. Better quality and lower prices. win and win. Filleted and boneless....one pound vac packs.

Butterflied branzini are good to go and a nice shot of butterflied Rainbow trout is coming in as well!! So glad so many of you have loved both. So good and beats any resto price by a mile...

We have fresh Faroe Island salmon as well as fresh Hokkaido scallops. Both sushi grade. We have a slew of other goodies from Portuguese sardines, to barbouni to Chilean Seabass fillets to Black Cod fillets.

Hamachi loins and kamas are around. As is a nice shot of pasteurzed lump crab meat from Mexico. Super flavorful stuff...

One thing that is not on the list for a little bit is Atlantic cod loins. The price of this has been going up and up and up and up. To the point that it just isn't worth it anymore. In it's place, we are bringing in skinless and boneless barramundi fillet from Australia! Firm, sweet meat, these fillets are perfect for a pan fry, roast, steam, parchment.. your choice!!

Pie dough and puff pastry dough sheets are back. As is lobster ravioli...lots of stuff, folks...

As always, I am still keeping my eyes peeled for something else coming our way. You never know..

You see how much fun we can have? I feel it too...

PEI mussels are the shellfish of the week....Pair with Settentatre Pasta Co's organic fresh spinach linguini for cheapest meal ever!!  Not sure about oysters yet ... We have labneh and smoked fish..So many good things..

Plenty of crab meat, shrimp, etc....

I know, I know..Lots of words...

Anyway, as usual, I have to thank all of you guys for being in our lives. What an incredible community we live in...
