Week of November 3, 2025 - Small World Seafood Update

Hello everybody!!

A quick reminder that this week we are going to Queen Village then to Moore Brothers Wines on Saturday morning. You will have to select your pick up area on Thursday when you click on the order form...

I hope everyone had a festive Halloween weekend. Streets were packed Friday night and what a great vibe all around. I don't think I can remember the last time I saw so many adults jump into the dress-up game along with the kids..fun on top of fun...

And now we turn the corner pretty vividly with Daylight savings and earlier nights. Plus colder days with more wind are coming our way causing all kinds of disruptions in the fishing world. Boats were mostly idled the week of Halloween, as usual, but should start heading out by the end of this week. That doesn't leave us with much to play with locally but we will manage as we always do to feature great stuff from other parts less affected. With some good news at that.

So, first of all, major bad weather is affecting the North Atlantic and the Faroe islands causing some disruption in salmon production. So, we will have blast frozen salmon but no fresh for this week. However, we will go to Norway for help and will be getting fresh Steelhead trout fillets! Now, Steelhead trout is the name for what starts out as rainbow trout in fresh water rivers. When they are small and in fresh water, the meat is white. When they go out to sea, they can get a large as salmon and the flesh turns a pretty deep orange like a mandarin. And it gets pretty fatty. This is sushi grade fish folks. In fact, all over Scandinavia, they prefer this fish to salmon for crudos. Hey, they love fattier fish. More creamy texture, more flavor. And makes one fantastic poke bowl too...plus, it is soooooo beautiful...

Speaking of the baby trouts, we do have more Rainbow trout butterflied. A must in your freezer. So  easy. So tasty...

And since we are on the butterfly train, we managed to lock in a good price on branzini since we use so much of it on a regular basis. Yes, tariffs raised prices but demand overall has dropped in the markets putting downward pressure on that number. Our amazing supplier wanted to lock in the volume from us and so we are going to lower the price of two fish back down to $24 from $26! Hey, we aren't like the others out there that raise prices going up and don't lower them going down. We keep it simple and honest. Always.

Also, on the menu and keeping in mind that Thanksgiving is four weeks away, we have some our our gorgeous Chilean Seabass whole fillets blast frozen by us once again! Always a hit. I mean, you can't beat the flavor and texture of this fish. Plus, drop a whole roasted side on the table for a little flex and watch their reactions...ooohs and aaahs....each side ranges from about 1lb to 1.8lb each...

Comnig in from Iceland, cod cheeks! These little nuggets are seriously tasty. They cook up just like scallops but could use a little dredge first before you toss them into a hot pan with oil. A flavor like cod, a texture like scallops..And so versatile due to its firmness that it holds its shape so well if you are making a fish soup or chowder...

We still have more Black cod fillets for those who prefer that. Miso Black Cod never gets old..Sushi grade rock shrimp, best in class Hokkaido scallops, South African lobster tails, head on shrimp...We have whole Portuguese sardines and Boston mackerel fillets too. Plus hamachi loins and kamas coming your way...

Plus, as a special feature, we have a limited amount of bottarga. That is the cured grey mullet roe sac famous in Italy as the truffle of the sea. Something you shave off over a pasta or seafood dish for extra umami. It ain't cheap. Each piece runs about half a pound and costs $60 but for those who know it and want to get some, it's not easy to find...

I am keeping my eyes peeled for another thing or two so stay tuned and watch what happens later this week!

You see how much fun we can have? I feel it too...

Littleneck clams are the shellfish of the week....Pair with Settentatre Pasta Co's organic fresh spinach linguini for cheapest meal ever!!  Conway Royals from PEI are the oysters of the week ... We have labneh and smoked fish..So many good things..

Plenty of crab meat, shrimp, etc....

I know, I know..Lots of words...

Anyway, as usual, I have to thank all of you guys for being in our lives. What an incredible community we live in...
