Week of November 17, 2025 - Small World Seafood Update
Hello everybody!!
Well, this is the week to stock up for Thanksgiving! We will be closed the week of for one of our annual week breaks. The other is the week of July 4th. Besides, the week of Thanksgiving is a terrrible week for fish in the markets, generally speaking. Restos don't move much of it. You guys at home, on the other hand....Also, this is a week where we also do the Saturday pick ups in Queen Village then to Moore Brothers Wines in Pennsauken. Hey, what a great way to kill too birds with one stone..you fish, your wine for the holidays...
So, let's get into the fun! Boats up in Nova Scotia have regeared their ships from halibut (yes, sadly, the season is over) to lobsters. So, we are lucky enough to have a nice shot of fresh cooked lobster claw and knuckle meat coming in!!!! We will vac seal them and since it is cooked already, it will have a good 10 day shelf life in your fridge although you can certainly freeze it too.
And to go along with lobster meat, we will also have frozen lobster ravioli from Settantatre Pasta Co!!! You almost can't have one without the other...
Also with Thanksgiving in mind, a few of you have asked about shucked oysters for frying or stuffing. Well, we are bringing in pints of shucked oysters this week!
Speaking of oysters, just so you know, when I bring in live oysters, you have a good 10 day shelf life. So if you pick some up this week, you will be totally cool for Thanksgiving!
We have Faroe Island salmon and Hokkaido scallops this week. Both sushi grade even when blast frozen.
We have a slew of super delish fish for you guys to stock up on. Butterflied branzini, Chilean seabass fillets, Black Cod fillets, Barbouni, Portuguese sardines, Cod cheeks, crab cocktail fingers, Hamachi loin and kama...I mean, come on...you need to buy yourself a little chest freezer for your home...just saying...
More fish meatballs in creamy pesto sauce and don't forget your ground beef and fantastic bacon. Or your smoked fish! Or your cultured butter!!!!
And for a special item this week, we have something I am totally stoked about. A few weeks back when we stopped in Queen Village for the first time on 4th St and Monroe, we met the owner of Good Good Chocolate down the block. Lisa makes some of the most interesting chocolates in the city. We talked a bit about doing a collab. I am especially keen on things you guys can make at home. And so, we weaved and bobbed around idea after idea until she hit the nail hard on the head. How about Lava Cakes? She could prep them and freeze them and all you would have to do is bake them at home. I tried to act coy and paused to respond in order to not give away my over-exuberant shriek. Yes! I said.
Look, I know you can buy some variation from places like Trader Joe's which are pretty good and passable. But this is the real deal. Valrhona Chocolate. Plugra butter..this is a lava cake that is comparable to anything a good resto will make..And you can bake them at home yourself..great stuff...two per order..
As always, I am still keeping my eyes peeled for something else coming our way. You never know..
You see how much fun we can have? I feel it too...
Littleneck clams are the shellfish of the week....Pair with Settentatre Pasta Co's organic fresh spinach linguini for cheapest meal ever!! Oysters will be Pemaquids from Maine ... We have labneh and smoked fish..So many good things..
Plenty of crab meat, shrimp, etc....
I know, I know..Lots of words...
Anyway, as usual, I have to thank all of you guys for being in our lives. What an incredible community we live in...
