Week of November 10, 2025 - Small World Seafood Update

Hello everybody!!

This is the time of year where we enter the time machine. Everything speeds up... Next thing you know, it's 2026...

We have Thanksgiving coming up in three weeks. As we do every year, we close down the week of Thanksgiving. Hey, everybody needs a break and I like the idea of the whole staff sharing a break together. So, this week and next week are the last two weeks to stock up before we break for a week. I know. Time is gonna fly..

So, let's roll into this week. It doesn't happen often but I definitely love it when it comes around. Fresh sushi grade albacore tuna from Hawaii! Also known as Tombo over there which, honestly, is such a cooler name so let's just call it that. Tombo. Beautiful fish for a poke bowl and to sear quickly, this tuna has the fat content to really melt in your mouth. Plus, if you wanted to cook it through in a sauce or poach in oil, this is the tuna to use.

Faroe Island salmon fresh is back this week! We should be good for next week as well. Sushi grade and undeniably best in class.

The crab meat situation is pretty weird right now. Prices through the roof and not much quantity around. However, we may have found a small pocket of joy with fresh Venezuelan Jumbo lump crab meat this week. So, we will have some for you! For $38 a pound, it beats anything on a shelf for Jumbo lump by at least 15 bucks. Remember that it is fresh so has a shelf life of a week to 10 days. But it is a treat nonetheless...

Also on the crab meat front, we got our hands on a small shot of crab cocktail fingers. These are those delish crab fingers that are versatile enough to eat chilled with a little cocktail sauce or you can pop them into a sauce or broth for added oomph..I once went to a great Thai resto right outside of New Orleans that prepared an app with it in a red coconut curry sauce...my lord...

We have butterflied Rainbow trout as well as branzini. For the branzini, the price is locked in til the end of the year at $24 for two fish so 2 bucks cheaper than it was two weeks ago. Hey, when we get a better price, we pass on the savings. Plus whole branzini scaled and gutted too!

Speaking of saving money, we made another deal on a nice shot of escargots. So, if you haven't tried ours, you really should. From France, these little nuggets are already cooked and just need to be heated up with a little cultured butter and garlic or use our Bibou butter. Was $16 a can of two dozen, now is $12 per can!! Grab a baquette and go!!

We have Black Cod fillets, sushi grade rock shrimp, large head on shrimp from Argentina, South African tails that can't be beat, hamachi loins and kamas.

For special features, we have more fish meatballs in pesto cream sauce! made wit ha mix of tuna, swordfish and halibut, these things are addictive. Plus, many of you have commented that you wished it came with more sauce so this is what we are doing. So, you can toss them around with some pasta and make a meal out of it.

Next special is another shot of White Pies from Pizza Freak Co from right here in Philly. This is a frozen pie, 9 by 13 inches that is made by top notch chefs in the city. The white pie has an almost Alfredo flavor and texture to it along with cheese to top it off. Now, what I like to do with it is add some rock shrimp on top of it before I bake it or some chopped clams. I can never decide...Easily feed 2-4 people..

And this week, more lettuce from Sussex Fresh. Now, We've had some amazing lettuce from Walt throughout the last 6 months. Except for the last batch which was a bit of an experiment for him. It didn't turn out as robust and longlasting as all the others. Sorry about that but this is a new enterprise and sometimes things aren't up to snuff. This week, we are back to that wonderful Summer Crisp variety.

I am still keeping my eyes peeled for something else coming our way. You never know..

You see how much fun we can have? I feel it too...

PEI mussels are the shellfish of the week....Pair with Settentatre Pasta Co's organic fresh spinach linguini for cheapest meal ever!!  Not sure about oysters yet ... We have labneh and smoked fish..So many good things..

Plenty of crab meat, shrimp, etc....

I know, I know..Lots of words...

Anyway, as usual, I have to thank all of you guys for being in our lives. What an incredible community we live in...
