Week of October 26, 2026 - Small World Seafood Update
Hello everybody!!
What a fun week and weekend, right? Boy, is there anything better that gorgeous fall weather like what we've been having? Absolutely gorgeous. It definitely makes the transition to Daylight Savings much easier with all that sunlight hitting the eyeballs all day...
One of the nice things, too, is that the winds have been rather low and seas have been extremely calm (at least around here but more on that later). So with all that, we will have some really fun stuff this week!
First up on the menu this week is fresh halibut from Nova Scotia!! As usual, all boats headed out after the storms and came back loaded! The fish has to go somewhere and prices are down from their typical high levels. We'll take it, though! So, take advantage! Not sure if we'll see it again this year. Maybe one more time but this one may be it!
Also from Nova Scotia, fresh claw and knuckle lobster meat! Hey, Halloween this Saturday sure would be a wee bit better with lobster rolls for your party, no? Or you could call them Wicked Witch finger rolls...just saying...hahaha..
So, back to the weather thing. Our storms from a week and half a ago are the storms in the North Sea around the Faroe Islands. So, this week, no fresh Faroe Island salmon although we will have blast frozen portions and sides for those that absolutely need them
But, as we do when this happens, we will have fresh Steelhead trout coming our way! Straight from Norway, steelhead looks like salmon, a little deeper on color, is a little fattier and definitely milder. This stuff just melts in your mouth! Amazing for crudos, and poke bowls but cooks up beautifully with any recipe you typically do for salmon! Many of you have been asking about it. Here it is!
We will have Greenland turbot fillets this week. Hokkaido scallops, Butterflied branzini and rainbow trout, Black cod fillets. Whole daurades also this week.
Lots of Halloween parties this week. Chilean seabass sliders would be a hit. Shrimp cocktails for sure. Mini crab cakes. Hamachi crudo is always the first plate polished off at one of these shindigs.
Thank you so much to everyone for the love. There was an article about me in Philadelphia Magazine in the October issue. Good stuff. Victor Fiorello who wrote the article is a class act. One of the best in the biz. Much appreciation to everyone since none of this happens without this wonderful community. It is not only unique but truly special..
Fresh pasta with be bucatini this week. That one is always a hit.
And as always, I am still keeping my eyes peeled for something else coming our way. You never know..There are a few possibilities still to reveal themselves....
You see how much fun we can have? I feel it too...
Littleneck clams are the shellfish of the week....Pair with Settentatre Pasta Co's organic fresh bucatini for cheapest meal ever!! Not sure about oysters yet... We have labneh and smoked fish..So many good things..
Plenty of crab meat, shrimp, etc....
I know, I know..Lots of words...
Anyway, as usual, I have to thank all of you guys for being in our lives. What an incredible community we live in...
