Week of October 12, 2026 - Small World Seafood Update

Hello everybody!!

Well, the weather has been crappier and crappier from the gulf up the coast. Lots of rain. Lots of wind. Tough fishing conditions make it very risky for boats to go out. I am not sure what will shake out of this mess in the next few days but something will. I am sure.

In the meantime, a little update on my travels through the Faroe Islands and Scotland. First off, the Faroe Islands are simply a magical place. Unspoiled, beautiful at every turn and unblemished by commercialism. For now. I don't think you need to spend a whole week here but three days from Edinburgh, Reykjavik or Copenhagen would be perfect. I will post some vids and pics from there on Insta when I get back. Stay tuned for that.

Everyone at Hiddenfjord really appreciate you all. Our community is a little famous over there with them. One of the more interesting conversations I had with them had to do with consistency of product versus quality of product. They have customers, meaning suppliers, that tell them that they value continuity of product by a wide margin over the quality of the product. As many of you know, sometimes the weather up there is brutal and they can't grab the salmon from the open seas pens. We switch off to steelhead or char when that happens. We don't care. We won't want to sell another salmon. Nothing comes close to it.

And therein lies the rub. Suppliers want consistency and consumers like us want the quality first. The struggle between what is efficient to produce versus what is better to produce. But we love these guys so I told them that on behalf of our whole community, please never sacrifice the quality. They were very happy to hear that. Reassured even. They rarely get the positive feedback they deserve.

Anyway, back to this week. Boats are heading out today so we should hopefully start seeing things hit the markets by Wednesday morning.

We do have Faroe Island salmon, of course. Sushi grade and fantastic as can be. We have Hokkaido scallops. Same there.

We haave Boston mackerel fillets, Greenland turbot fillets, Rainbow trout, branzini butterflied as well as whole.

Fresh pasta with be bucatini this week. That one is always a hit.

And as always, I am still keeping my eyes peeled for something else coming our way. You never know..There are a few possibilities still to reveal themselves....

You see how much fun we can have? I feel it too...

littleneck clams are the shellfish of the week....Pair with Settentatre Pasta Co's organic fresh bucatini for cheapest meal ever!!  Not sure about oysters yet... We have labneh and smoked fish..So many good things..

Plenty of crab meat, shrimp, etc....

I know, I know..Lots of words...

Anyway, as usual, I have to thank all of you guys for being in our lives. What an incredible community we live in...
