Week of September 28, 2026 - Small World Seafood Update

Hello everybody!!

Well, when I wished for the end of a hot summer, I really should have specified that i wanted sunny, fall weather..Sorry guys. My bad..

So, of course, it is obvious to many of you that most boats have been tied up due to this storm. Many of you now see weather differently. You see how it can affect the fishermen. How that can affect what comes into the markets. It connects you to the world around you and how things work.

Speaking of connections, I went to the gym over the weekend and decided that I would not put earbuds in my ears and just soak in the sounds and energy of the gym. I gotta tell ya. It was weird. You see, most of the time, I wear them and listen to a podcast or some music but I am in my own world. Without them, I felt like I was in THE world. Funny thing was that everybody was connected to earbuds and were in their own world. They all looked like little zombies walking around and exercising but totally disconnected from everybody else. Pretty bizarre to realize that I must have been the same when wearing earbuds. Shared space, proximity to other humans, zero shared experience. Like people sitting on benches in one of the Squares in the city on their phones. No one watching the world pass on by. What a waste.

Now, the reason I bring this up is that I have had what feels like a million conversations with many of you about how sick we are of technology. Or the overuse of technology, more specifically. I mean, texting and GPS and searching for info and calendars and cameras, etc are great in phone. But most of the rest? Mindmush crap. Scrolling away for no good reason? Useless..

And in a world that is angry already (or perhaps it is because of), we have difficulty interacting with people in a normal way anymore. We snap, we avoid, we judge, we neglect. Don't get me wrong here. I am guilty of this too. Sometimes I forget that I am talking to a human and not a bot. And I hate that state of being. It's cold and empty. I WANT to connect. I LIKE to connect. I NEED to connect. We all do really. Yet, there I can be on my phone sitting in a coffee shop instead of starting a conversation.

And then I turn to this community as a manifestation of how that very feeling can be satisfied. How we communicate. How we help each other. How we talk to one another like HUMAN beings. Civility, appreciation, understanding. Real people, flaws and quirks and all. How friggin refreshing in a world dominated by so much technology that is there only to separate us from the people around us. This thing keeps us real. This thing keeps me human. Shared experiences are the best. And, it keeps me hopeful for humanity too. We can do this if we have intent. Red pill please.

So, fish wise, not sure what will shake out this week. We do have all the usual suspects, though. Faroe Island salmon, Hokkaido scallops and on and on..

For a special item this week, I met a fellow fish guy, John Kelly from Lancaster. He has a business a bit like ours with a variety of good things besides seafood. He also happens to be a mushroom forager. Licensed of course. He will have some Hen of the Woods for us this week! Super happy to have these for you guys.

Fresh pasta with be bucatini this week. Change things up.

And as always, I am still keeping my eyes peeled for something else coming our way. You never know..There are a few possibilities still to reveal themselves....

You see how much fun we can have? I feel it too...

Littleneck clams are the shellfish of the week....Pair with Settentatre Pasta Co's organic fresh bucatini for cheapest meal ever!!  Not sure about oysters yet... We have labneh and smoked fish..So many good things..

Plenty of crab meat, shrimp, etc....

I know, I know..Lots of words...

Anyway, as usual, I have to thank all of you guys for being in our lives. What an incredible community we live in...
