Week of August 3, 2026 - Small World Seafood Update
Hello everybody!!
Skies were raging and so were the seas. It's a little rough out there for the fishermen. Plus the heat doesn't make it easy to be out at sea for any stretch of time. Before I starting working in the seafood industry, I never really considered how weather affected certain professions. Now, I kind of see it everywhere. We live alongside nature and have to respect its might. Only then can we really appreciate the gift it offers us in return.
So, this week, no tuna for the first time in a long while. That's okay. We need a little break from it, I suppose. Sometimes, though, it benefits us to look a little further to areas not affected so much by said weather systems. And finally after a long hiatus, we have Greenland turbot fillets back in!
Greenland turbot (also known in Canada as Greenland halibut) is the northern cousin of king halibut. A smaller fish but with a texture that is just incredible. Melts in your mouth, really. Bone white and beautiful as can be, it has become a lot of people's favorite fish. It's in my top three for sure. We blast freeze it in portions separately then vac pack it so you can take out a couple of pieces at a time. It pan sears nicely, roasts up nicely and is one of my favorite fish for en "papillote" or in parchment. Elegant fish..
We have more fresh cooked claw and knuckle meat from Nova Scotia! It's hard to resist going without it at this point in the summer. Not many weeks left before we all get back to reality in September...ugh...
We have more cod cheeks from Iceland. Nifty little pucks of joy..
Sushi grade Faroe Island salmon and Hokkaido scallops. Both also available blast frozen and still sushi grade..
We have butterflied branzini and rainbow trout. Whole branzini as well as whole daurades. Whole Portuguese sardines and barbouni. More monchong fillets.
Fresh pasta this week switches over to bucatini. Matt from Settantatre Pasta Co makes a great one.
And as always, I am still keeping my eyes peeled for something else coming our way. You never know..There are a few possibilities still to reveal themselves....
You see how much fun we can have? I feel it too...
Littleneck clams are the shellfish of the week....Pair with Settentatre Pasta Co's organic fresh bucatini for cheapest meal ever!! Not sure about oysters yet... We have labneh and smoked fish..So many good things..
Plenty of crab meat, shrimp, etc....
I know, I know..Lots of words...
Anyway, as usual, I have to thank all of you guys for being in our lives. What an incredible community we live in...
