Week of March 16, 2026 - Small World Seafood Update

Hello everybody!!

Well, today is quite an ominous day. First of all, it was exactly 6 years ago almost to the day that this direct to comsumer business started. On March 16th of 2020, all of our lives would change. That was the day that everything shut down due to Covid. it's also the day that I sent out an email to the people on my block letting them know that I now had seafood meant for restaurants that I wanted to give away. I was just trying to help in a time of crisis. Little did I know that people wanted more and would tell their friends and then those people would tell their friends and on and on to this point where we are today.

Today is also a day where we find ourselves in Boston for the International Seafood Show to visit vendors who we've become friends with and to find new friends for the future that can offer us great stuff. It is quite a funny thing trying to articulate what Small World Seafood does to anyone. It almost sounds like we are making up a fantasy that could not possibly exist.

"We have a business that sells fresh and frozen seafood, a lot of it that we blast freeze ourselves, along with smoked fish, stocks and sauces, etc. We also feature small businesses that do wonderful stuff and give them a hand. Plus, a bunch of other necessary things you would need to make a nice meal like sushi rice, garlic butter, nori..Heck, we even sell dog treats made with seafood by product we produce. How do we do this? Well, we send out an email every week, people pre-order and then meet us at our truck to pick up. It's pretty cool..."

Yeah, right...Who would believe this? Honestly. A lot of times, I don't believe it myself...hahaha..but there you go..But at the end of describing what we do, I always tell them that what this is can only be described not as a business but as a community. We've been a part of your lives and you've been a part of our lives so deeply for six years now. And as I looked at so many businesses at the Expo, I could only see the disconnection with the consumer. With people like you and me. Like they don't get. Like they don't understand us. I told a few people to come and visit, see what we do. Talk to you guys. Listen to what you have to say.

I was taught a long time ago from a mentor of mine in the restaurant business that we tend to underestimate other people's sophistication and we tend to overestimate our own. I live by those words. I try believe them to be true. All this to say thank you, thank you, thank you! You guys are the biggest part of why this works. You show up on days that aren't the best. You communicate with us. And most of all, you've let us into your homes, your holidays, your families and your hearts. It's an honor we will never take for granted.

Okay, well, let's get to the fish, yeah? I know winter isn't quite over but it doesn't mean we can't be defiant a wee bit so this week, we will be getting a nice shot of fresh claw and knuckle lobster meat from Nova Scotia! Lobster rolls, baby!!! It ain't summer but it doesn't mean we can't eat like it is..

We have more bay scallops from Martha's Vineyard! Get em while you can! We have Faroe Island salmon and Hokkaido scallops. Both sushi grade.

We have a ton of other things as you well know.

And with Passover in two weeks or so, we have frozen gefilte fish logs from Raskins in Brooklyn! These are the good ones. And such a hit with you guys. Stock up on them now. Don't wait til the week before. They may sell out..

We have plenty of our usual suspects around. And as far as special features go, Wagyu ground beef is back in the mix! We have more shrimp and crab canneloni back too!

More smoked albacore tuna spread is around. Grab it while you can.

And as always, I am still keeping my eyes peeled for something else coming our way. You never know..There are a few possibilities still to reveal themselves....

You see how much fun we can have? I feel it too...

PEI mussels are the shellfish of the week....Pair with Settentatre Pasta Co's organic fresh spinach linguini for cheapest meal ever!!  Not sure about oysters yet ... We have labneh and smoked fish..So many good things..

Plenty of crab meat, shrimp, etc....

I know, I know..Lots of words...

Anyway, as usual, I have to thank all of you guys for being in our lives. What an incredible community we live in...
