Week of November 2, 2026 - Small World Seafood Update
Hello everybody!!
Boy, one hour off and I feel a little jet lagged. I must be getting old....ugh...Well, what a way to bring in the fall! Over two weeks of stellar weather with plenty of sunshine and brisk mornings. We've certainly had every season this year magnified by a couple of factors. Snow and brutal cold this past winter, tons of rain in the Spring, hot, hot and more hot this past summer and now this. I gotta tell ya, it's been a while since I've felt all four seasons in one year. Pretty cool...
Now that we are embarking on the November train, it is here that I remind everyone and tell the newbies that we do NOT do this thing the week of Thanksgiving. You have plenty of time. Three weeks, in fact, to load up and get what you want for the holiday and for that week. Again, plenty of time but I thought I would put it out there.
Something else I want to put out there this week is fresh fluke flounder fillet! This is one of the best times to have it in my opinion. Now through March or so. The waters are getting colder and they are fattening up! Great stuff for a Meuniere dish, for stuffing with half a fish cake or crab cake mix or just slicing up for ceviche!!
Speaking of raw fish, it's been a little while but we will havew super frozen Chutoro this week! The fatty out part of the bluefin tuna, this is the stuff you see on omakases or in your better sushi restos. You have to keep it frozen and you have a week or two to use it. There are special instructions for thawing which you can find on our website. Icebath, basically. This stuff is absolutely gorgeous. Not the cheapest thing around but consider this; 8 ounces of chutoro will cost you $26 with us. You can get 10 to 12 nice slices out of it so around $2.50 per slice! Compare that to any one of your favorite restos. Not even close...
A mini lobster season is in full swing up in Nova Scotia. So, I think we should take advantage of it. It ain't summer anymore but whatever. Fresh claw and knuckle meat is never out of style in my book...
Aaaaannnd, Faroe Island salmon is back! Fresh salmon will be here this week. Sushi grade, of course so add that to the omakase a casa meal..Okay, that's a little fusion but why not, right? It's a small world....
More Greenland turbot, Boston mackerel fillets, branzini and rainbow trout butterflied, Black cod fillets Hoddaiko scallops...
Fresh pasta with be bucatini this week. That one is always a hit.
And as always, I am still keeping my eyes peeled for something else coming our way. You never know..There are a few possibilities still to reveal themselves....
You see how much fun we can have? I feel it too...
PEI mussels are the shellfish of the week....Pair with Settentatre Pasta Co's organic fresh bucatini for cheapest meal ever!! Not sure about oysters yet... We have labneh and smoked fish..So many good things..
Plenty of crab meat, shrimp, etc....
I know, I know..Lots of words...
Anyway, as usual, I have to thank all of you guys for being in our lives. What an incredible community we live in...
