Week of October 27, 2025 - Small World Seafood Update
Hello everybody!!
We've had quite a few gorgeous fall days. Sunny day, slightly breezy, dry weather, the leaves are turning and pretty cold nights. It's nice to feel a season at its best.
This past Saturday was our first bi-weekly stopping in Queen Village and Moore Brothers Wines in Pennsauken. Man, it's nice to be welcomed to a neighborhood. It was a great turnout and so many people were super excited we were there.
It also stimulated a lot of conversations with people walking by asking us what we were. Now, for all of you who are used to doing this every week, you may take for granted that this thing could sometimes be a wee bit difficult explain. Yes, we are a seafood vendor but we also sell things to help you make better meals. Like sauces and glazes and butters and stocks...And then we feature other cool things that are uniquely so much better than what you can find in a supermarket such as bacon, labneh, fresh pasta, pie dough, babka kits..
We usually get a quizzical look from them until one of you walks up to pick up and tells them that we are awesome and then they feel more comfortable inviting themselves into our community. I gotta say, one of the coolest things on Saturday was watching people pick up their fish and then walk right into Moore Brothers Wines to select some wines for themselves. Synergy. How cool. And very European...
Anyway, enough about that. Let's focus on this week. Traditionally, the week of Halloween is not a strong week for fish and the fishers know it. They kind of lay low. If it won't sell, they won't get paid so why bother is what they think.Totally understandable. But that doesn't mean we can't have fun anyway.
Back from a week hiatus, we have more Rainbow trout buttterflied fillets! I am so glad many of you have come around to the excellence of this fish. Truly delish. And you can also check out a few of our easy recipes on our main site for things to do with it.
We also have a small shot of Greeenland turbot fillets blast frozen! A really fine piece of fish with a delicate texture and mouth feel. One of my faves..If you haven't tried your hand at baking in a parchment purse, do so. It is quite fun..
For those who can't live without a little sushi grade stuff, we have some super frozen Chutoro once again this week. A wee bit less fatty than the Otoro but a that's what makes it special...more balance between meat and fat. Held by us at -60F, they have a week shelf life in your freezer and have to be thawed a very specific way in an icebath. Check out our vid on how to do that..
We have Sushi grade Faroe Island salmon and Hokkaido scallops. We have sushi grade hamachi loins. And those amazing kamas to roast up. Plus a ton of accompaniments such as top notch sushi rice, pickled ginger, nori, etc..
And for Halloween itself, you can make wicked witch fingers you can dip in gargoyle blood. More classically known as Shrimp cocktail. Medusa eyeballs, or mini crab cakes, some would call them. See where I'm going with this? It's a goofy fun weekend so have fun with your food!!!
We have frozen Portuguese sardines and more Boston mackerel fillets and Black cod fillets. Branzini butterflied are in the house, too. And a few other things may be coming our way..
We have another fresh batch of smoked albacore tuna spread coming to you this week. Also back after a long hiatus, we have frozen pie dough as well as puff pastry dough sheets from CJ for Oui. Many of you have been asking about it. Have at it..Lots of great smoked fishes and meats...Man, we got a lot of items..
Oh, and more cultured butter from Ploughgate Creamery in Vermont..great, fatty stuff...
You see how much fun we can have? I feel it too...
Littleneck clams are the shellfish of the week....Pair with Settentatre Pasta Co's organic fresh spinach linguini for cheapest meal ever!! Oysters are Popponsettes out of Maine ... We have labneh and smoked fish..So many good things..
Plenty of crab meat, shrimp, etc....
I know, I know..Lots of words...
Anyway, as usual, I have to thank all of you guys for being in our lives. What an incredible community we live in...
