Week of June 2, 2025 - Swarthmore Farmers Market Order Form
Hello everybody!!
Well, now we are going to get a nice little sweat in. Nice. I love getting those pores activated and flushing out all the crap from the winter season...Ahhh....feels good.....for now.....
Anyway, onto the fish! First up is some gorgeous Greenland turbot from Newfoundland! I know, it seems weird but that's how it goes. This fish is one of my faves. The northernmost cousin of halibut and fluke and the creamiest in texture. This is one refined and elegant fish! Plus, as halibut and fluke are not much around and prices are exorbitant for both, this is the sleeper buy. Personally, I think I favor it over the other two anyway. Super easy to simply bake in the oven for 12 minutes at 425F with a little olive oil, salt and pepper. Or if you are having a fancy schmancy dinner, try your hand at baking in parchment. I posted a recipe for that. What a crowd pleaser when you open it at the table. I mean, that beautiful puff of steam popping out and the smell!! Divine..
Speaking of divine things, we have a nice shot of Steelhead trout that we portioned and blast froze! Lots of you love this cousin of salmon. Especially those who like a really fatty salmon. This is the stuff to dissolve on the palate. Wow. it is good. Plus, it is sushi grade! I made a poke bowl with it last night and couldn't stop shoveling it...So good. But if you wanted to cook it up, do the same you would for salmon...good stuff..
And then the seasonal items coming our way right now. More fresh lobster claw and knuckle meat for lobster rolls or risottos or pastas! So sweet and easy. A good shelf life of a week to ten days. If it lasts that long in your fridge...
And some tasty fresh Jumbo lump crab meat from Venezuela! Same blue crab as we find around here. Great for pastas, cocktails, salads..Just yummy.
You guys missed out on Soft shells in the city last week but we blast froze some for you all so have at it. Limited supplies so will sell out quick!
We have Faroe Island salmon, Hokkaido scallops. Both sushi grade. We have Black Cod fillets, branzini butterflied, head on wild Argentine reds, wild rock shrimp.
Also, since you may be stocking up for Father's Day next week, we have hamachi loins, hamachi kamas (the collars) and Super frozen otoro!!!
For special items, we have two great summery things. We have that wonderful lettuce from Sussex Fresh in Delaware. Our friends down there that farm tilapia and are using the runoff to fertilize a lettuce hydroponic farm. This is the best lettuce i've ever tasted. This week, we will be featuring Red Incised lettuce which has a crispy leaf and crunchy stem. So good..
And what is summer without a good hot dog, yeah? Well, more smoked pork/beef dogs from El Camino! No fillers, no bullshit. This is the real deal. For those of you old enough, this will remind you of your youth when hot dogs were made by people in your neighborhood with good ingredients..trust me...
Littleneck clams are the shellfish of the week. And with organic fresh spinach linguini from Settantatre Pasta Co? Best cheap meal ever! Mimi's from Maine are the oysters this week. Nice and plump.
See what I mean?? All this good to stuff to choose from.... Life is good...
And don't forget your frozen shrimp and condiments and sauces...And dog treats for doggies...
I know, I know. Lots of words but, hey, consider the alternative...
