OCTOBER 26, 2020

 GOOD MORNING EVERYONE!!!

Well, if there was such a thing as a satellite that could measure dopamine surges in a given population to evaluate areas of high drug use, it would have shown two huge glowing areas last Thursday in Philadelphia. Kenzington and Fairmount. I would imagine the Head of the City Health Department coming into the mayor's office and saying:

"Sir, We have a situation..."

The next day, he would return after investigating to say, "Emmm....errrr...uhhhhh...Well, Mister Mayor, you see, there is this thing called Small World Seafood and this lady named Shevy that makes this, apparently, really good babka...."

Hahahaha..We were getting texts and emails through the day about it. Very cool of all of you to support this little business.

Onto fish. This is one of those weeks where we could take advantage of commodity market dynamics. We are getting near the end of Alaskan halibut season and so they go out to fish like crazy to max out their quotas. In doing so, they flood the market causing the price to go way down. It's been pretty expensive lately. In order to protect their market share, Nova Scotia goes out and fishes a bunch and undercuts the West Coast price. Winner? Us. We will be doing halibut this week and it may be the last time. Maybe not but maybe. Covid has brought some funny movements in the markets.

Not sure about the other fish yet but I am working on it. Mussels are back this week. Pemaquids from Maine are the oysters of choice.

Cheese is back!!! Yayyy!!!!! Ann from Third Wheel Cheese Co in West Philly has put together another interesting line up that I will post on Wednesday's email. Sorry. No peaking. We are also working on a couple of cool things for your pantry next week. Stay tuned on that.

Lastly, I want to thank everyone who had such nice words to say about keeping this affair civil. I want to tell you that it only confirms that we should keep doing what we are doing. And just to tell you, a few people emailed me to say that they thought that it was possible that they were rude and apologized. There is hope for the world, people and it begins with how we relate to each other.  Finding interesting stuff for you to try and maybe go off and support independently is how a community grows stronger and sturdier.

Let's not forget that we are  not going out to try things as much as we did pre-Covid. When we did, though, there was always a little excitement mixed with nervousness in trying something new. Most of the time, we only confirmed to ourselves that we didn't, in fact, like it. The magic, my friends, would happen when we would try something only to discover that we, in fact, liked or even LOVED something that we thought we wouldn't. And that's why we try things. For the magic moments. It won't always happen but it is worth the fun.

And so, on that note, I will leave you with this video of how I would ask any of you to attack us from now on. Anyone who knows me well, knows how much I love to laugh and I love high art. This is a classic skit from a classic show with the combination of the two. No editing and no overdubbing. Live performance only. Wow.

Enjoy and look out for the order form this Wednesday at 11am.
